Developers can commit each set of changes on their dev machine and perform version control operations such as history and compare without a network connection. Each developer has a copy of the source repository on their dev machine. Git repositories can live locally (such as on a developer’s machine). Git: Git is a distributed version control system. Branches are path-based and created on the server. Historical data is maintained only on the server. Typically, team members have only one version of each file on their dev machines. Team Foundation Version Control (TFVC): TFVC is a centralized version control system. Here is a quick overview of the two version control systems:

5.Azure DevOps supports two types of version control, Git and Team Foundation Version Control (TFVC). We also showed that other Git Gui clients, like SourceTree already have that feature. In this article, we showed what the new feature of VS2022, v 17.3.0, “Line staging” looks like. Click on file will show you the file content, from the perspective of Git. Once you select that line and stage it, you will see again the same file in both controls, “Staged files” and “Unstaged files”. In SourceTree, in the integrated editor, you can select the line you want to stage, and above you will see buttons to do that. Selecting the file will give us a diff of what is staged. Then we can see that file is listed two times, in both the “Staged changed” control and in the “Changes” control. In compare mode, we just “right-click” the line we want to stage and select the option. In order to get to the option to do “Line staging” and stage only the first line, we need to get to “compare mode”. When we added two lines, VS2022 immediately marked file changes and showed the file in the changes (Work-files) directory. Let us assume we want to stage and commit the first line, but not the second one in the next commit. We will use a small piece of code, and add two lines of code.

The new version of VS2022, v 17.3.0 introduces a new feature that enables us to do exactly that.

The problem we are facing is how to stage (prepare for commit) only a part of the file that was changed, not the whole file.
